Zero lactose milk drink launched in Estonia
|
| Valio Baltic introduced its revolutionary 100% lactose free milk drink in the Baltic region in October 2007. Despite the fact that nearly 25% of Estonians suffer from lactose intolerance (Lember et al. 2006), no lactose free fresh dairy products have been available here until now.

Valio Zero Lactose milk drink tastes like ordinary milk and has the same components that make milk so healthy - calcium, vitamins, milk fats, and so on. And just like ordinary milk, this product is perfect for drinking and cooking or adding to coffee. EU regulations dictate that a lactose free milk must be described as milk drink.
People with lactose intolerance cannot produce the lactase enzyme necessary to degrade lactose and their body does not absorb non-degraded lactose. This may cause several unpleasant symptoms after drinking milk: abdominal pain, a rumbling stomach, flatulence and diarrhoea.
