Lactobacillus GG

What are probiotics?
Functional foods have attracted increasing interest around the world in the last decade. Probiotic dairy products are among the most successful. Probiotics can be defined as "Live microbial food supplements or dairy products containing bacteria that beneficially influence the health of the host and whose health benefits are documented in a scientific way."

Lactobacillus GG strain
Lactobacillus GG is a L. rhamnosus strain. The strain was isolated in the early 1980's in Boston, USA and its commercial success is based on extensive scientific documentation of the health effects of the strain.

Lactobacillus GG has the most secure and extensive scientific background of all the probiotics. Realising the importance and potential of Lactobacillus GG, Valio acquired a worldwide exclusive license in 1987. Valio created and registered trademark LGG® for the technology. The world's first Lactobacillus GG products were launched under the Valio Gefilus® brand in Finland in 1990.

LGG®, LGG® logo and Valio Gefilus® are trademarks of Valio Ltd and Valio has licenced rights to LGG® to several companies all over the world. Read more on our partners in LGG® Brands section.
