Valio Ltd was founded in 1905 primarily to export butter. Today, the company is engaged in processing and marketing milk, dairy products and other food products. The product range totals about 1,000 items.
Valio Ltd is owned by 18 co-operative dairies and 8,500 dairy farms produce milk for the company.
Valio Group comprises the parent company Valio Ltd and its subsidiaries in Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Belgium (*, Latvia, China and the United States. The Group employees on average 4,500 people, including 930 who work outside Finland.

Valio Ltd net turnover for the year 2011 was EUR 1.7 billion.
Valio Group net turnover for the same year amounted to EUR 1.9 billion, of which international operations (exports and foreign companies) account for one third.
Valio Group took in 1,870 million litres of milk in the year 2011.
Production and Marketing
Valio has 15 production plants in Finland, two in Estonia and one in Belgium and a customer service centre in Moscow.
Fresh dairy products account for 42.9 per cent of Group net turnover, cheeses 31.7 per cent, butter and spreads 12.4 per cent, milk- and whey-based powders 6.5 per cent, and other products 6.5 per cent.
Valio and the environment
All Valio Ltd operations in Finland have been granted an environmental certificate in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.
