Valio is the biggest distributor of refrigerated goods in Finland

Valio annually distributes around 40% of the temperature-regulated foods in Finland; in 2010, Valio distribution amounted to around 760 million kilos.

Valio also distributes meat, bakery and ice cream products.

The unbroken cold chain preserves the products intact and guarantees tasty and safe food for consumers.
Valio targets environment friendly distribution
Valio’s delivery lorries drove a total of 23.4 million kilometres in 2010 (2009: 24.7 million kilometres) and carried 700 million kilos of Valio products and 60 million kilos of other food companies’ products.

Special attention was paid to the lorries’ degree of filling and route optimisation in order to reduce the environmental load.

In addition, Valio studied the potential to use distribution vehicles that are more environment friendly. At the beginning of 2011, Valio became the first company in Finland to start using a delivery

Since the beginning of 2011, Valio has been piloting the use of bio-ethanol made from food industry waste as a fuel for delivery vehicles. The experiment is initially being conducted with a vehicle that distributes Valio products in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

In addition to bio-ethanol, Valio is pioneering other technologies for delivery lorries. In 2003, Valio introduced lorries that utilise industrial waste carbon dioxide in their refrigeration equipment in early morning distribution in Helsinki. This carbon dioxide equipment is employed in five vehicles.
