Dairy products that make you feel good

Valio is the biggest milk processor in Finland and as a responsible company, Valio understands its role as a pioneer to develope and produce Finnish milk products.

There are about 1000 items in Valio's product range. The wide selection provides an alternative weather you want to eat less processed milk products, without additives, low fat, with or without sugar or functional products.
Valio is working for the public health
The current trend for natural products has cut the sales of ultra light products. The popularity of low fat products has not fallen, as obesity is still one of the biggest public health problems in Finland.

Low fat dairy products play an important role in a healthy daily diet. Valio fat free milk and fat free fermented milk were granted the Finnish Heart Association and Finnish Diabetes Association’s Heart Symbol in March 2010. Valio fat free milk and fat free fermented milk contain lots of essential nutrients: calcium, zinc, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins A, B, D and E.

Valio’s product range includes more than 80 products bearing the Heart Symbol which is awarded by the Finnish Heart Association and Finnish Diabetes Association. The Heart Symbol helps consumers make the appropriate choices and has been in use for 10 years now.

Vitamin D intake in all age groups in Finland is markedly lower than recommended. In September 2010, the vitamin D content of Valio milks, fermented milks, yoghurts and viili fermented milks was increased from 0.5 micrograms to 1 microgram per 100 millilitres of product. This supplement is in line with the recommendations of the Finnish National Nutrition Council, and its purpose is to bring vitamin D intake closer to the Council’s nutrition recommendations.

In 2010, Valio was for the second year in a row a partner in the Finnish Diabetes Association’s programme for the prevention and treatment of diabetes (DEHKO 2000–2010). The programme ended in 2010.

Valio has developed lactose free Valio Laktoositon™ products that taste just like fresh milk for people who could not otherwise consume dairy products because of the lactose they contain. In November 2010, The Foundation for New Technology granted Valio the Edelcrantz Challenge Award for its development of lactose free milk drink.

Valio researches dairy products’ potential to enhance immunity and promote weight management.

Milk has by nature a high protein content, and milk proteins are important building blocks for the body. One of the milk proteins, whey protein, has been found in studies to promote muscle growth, recovery after exercising, and weight loss, as in all three cases does the calcium in milk.
Valio Gefilus® 20 years
Valio’s leading innovations include tasty, immunity enhancing Valio Gefilus® dairy products and juices, plus Valio lactose free products that taste just like fresh milk and are manufactured using Valio’s patented method.

The efficacy of Valio Gefilus® products is based on the LGG® lactic acid bacterium, the world’s most researched functional lactic acid bacterium, or probiotic. The LGG® lactic acid bacterium has been researched in 501 scientific studies, its effects have been studied in 161 clinical trials, and its effects on strengthening immunity have been shown in 49 studies. In 2010, Valio Gefilus® products celebrated 20 years of helping to enhance consumers’ immunity.

In April 2010, the “Miten Suomi voi?” (How is Finland?) national well-being barometer and well-being brands survey 2010 named Valio Gefilus® the fourth most valued well-being brand in Finland. The Valio Gefilus® brand is recognised – depending on the product group – by around 90% of Finns.


Valio Laktoositon™ cloudberry-apple yoghurt launched in May 2010 offers all the benefits of Finnish milk, without the lactose.
