Good products are rooted in good raw materials

Good raw milk is based on healthy and happy animals, high-quality silage, systematic feeding, and appropriate production conditions. Quality assurance procedures make the dairy farms that produce our milk an integral part of the Valio Group operating system.
The raw milk processed at the Valio Group dairies is always Finnish. It is produced in Finland on family-owned dairy farms that typically have 28 cows. The total volume of milk delivered annually to dairies in Finland is around 1,900 million litres, of which Valio processes and markets 86%.

The milk produced on a Valio dairy farm is of excellent quality, both technically and ethically. Quality is based on the producers' expertise and the continuous development of the operations of the entire chain. Over 90% of the farms have made a quality agreement with their own dairy co-operative. The co-operatives ensure the realisation of jointly determined conditions through regular advisory audits.

Each dairy farm uses Valio's Milk Quality Manual that includes the company's principles and instructions for milk production. Nearly one third of the producers have undertaken at least five days of quality training. In recognition of investments made in quality, the well-being of animals and the farm environment, the Valio dairy farm endorsement can be granted once a farm meets the necessary criteria.
