The following books have been written about the history of Valio:
|
50 years
Seppo Simonen: Valio Meijerien Keskusosuusliike 1905-1955, Yhteiskirjapaino Oy, Helsinki 1955.
The book focuses on Valio's primary processes: production, markets, and business, during the company's first 50 years. It contains a short description of the cattle and dairy industry in Finland from the 12th century onwards.
75 years
Kari Hokkanen: Maidon tie 1905-1980, Yhteiskirjapaino Oy, Helsinki 1980.
The book focuses on the previous 25 years of the 75 year-old Valio co-operative dairy business. Organisational issues are described in detail.
100 years
Touko Perko: Valio ja suuri murros, Kustannusosakeyhtiö Otava, Keuruu 2005.
The greater part of Valio's centennial history focuses on the period 1990-2005. During those dramatic years, Valio had to adapt very quickly from working in a closed and regulated economy protected by government statutes to operating in a more open market economy. The second half of the book includes in-depth analyses, taken from a period of 100 years, of issues of particular interest to the historian and author, that had been handled either superficially or not at all in the previous histories.
Touko Perko: The Valio Story: From butter exports to international business, Kustannusosakeyhtiö Otava, Keuruu 2005.
As suggested by its name, Valio's English language centennial history describes the company's evolution from an export business into an international company over the period of 100 years. The book focuses on the biggest steps taken by Valio in the international arena.
