Adopting the most rigorous scientific criteria, Valio's research tradition is based on the groundwork laid by the historic achievements of former Valio Laboratory Director, Nobel laureate Professor A.I. Virtanen.

With a staff of around 160, Valio R&D has proven outstandingly innovative. R&D investment for 2009 totalled EUR 18 million.
