Lactose-free milk, no sweetness

Valio has long traditions in the development and manufacture of HYLA® low lactose products. In 2001, Valio launched a lactose-free milk drink which is not sweet like HYLA milk but has the fresh taste of ordinary milk.

Lactose is removed physically to make Valio's lactose-free milk drink, while in HYLA products the lactose has been enzymatically hydrolysed into glucose and galactose that are responsible for the slightly sweet taste.

Valio's lactose-free milk drink quickly became a hit in Finland. Consumer demand resulted in the expansion of the product range to include creams, yoghurts, fermented milks, quarks, cottage cheese and sour cream.

Valio has also licensed its lactose-free technology abroad.

Valio is licensing the lactose-free milk technology and invites applications.
