Process technology
|
The process technology group develops and applies processes for use in the dairy industry. Important know-how includes chromatographic processes, and membrane and drying technologies. Processes typically utilize biotechnology, and apply enzymatic or microbiological methods such as hydrolyses and various fermentation processes. The key goals are to create completely new kinds of products, such as the Evolus products and the lactose-free product family, and to produce existing products more cost-effectively and of ever-higher quality.
We are researching new applications of membrane technologies, such as reverse osmosis, and nano-, ultra- and micro-filtering. The production of demineralized whey powder for industry and exported, applies electro dialysis and ion exchange technology. Lactose can also be hydrolyzed non-intermittently with immobilized enzymes (e.g. low-lactose whey syrups). Chromatography, among other separation techniques, can by used on an industrial scale to separate lactose from milk.
