1. What is the efficacy of Valio Evolus® Double Effect products based on? Is there any scientific proof?
The two effective components in Valio Evolus® Double Effect products are plant sterol which lowers cholesterol and peptides which help control blood pressure. Plant sterol reduces the absorption of cholesterol produced by the body and of that obtained from food, thereby lowering harmful LDL cholesterol. The peptides in Valio Evolus® Double Effect products are created when part of the milk proteins is degraded into smaller components during the fermentation process. These peptides help control blood pressure by inhibiting the action of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) that raises blood pressure. The effect of peptides on blood pressure has been shown in five clinical studies and plant sterol has been found in dozens more to have a cholesterol lowering effect.
2. How quickly does Valio Evolus® Double Effect impact elevated cholesterol?
How quickly does it impact elevated blood pressure?
The impact of Valio Evolus® Double Effect products depends on the individual. The effects on lowering LDL cholesterol will start to show in 2 - 3 weeks if the products are used daily as part of a healthy diet. The effects on blood pressure will also start to show during the first weeks of use and regular consumption will produce the maximum effect within 5 - 7 weeks.
3. How far can a body's elevated cholesterol level fall, if I eat a Valio Evolus® Double Effect yoghurt every morning and evening?
The impact of Valio Evolus® Double Effect products depends on the individual. It can however be stated from a number of clinical studies that the plant sterol in the product lowers the total cholesterol level by around 8 -10% and the serum LDL cholesterol level by around 8 - 13%. Regular consumption is important in order to achieve the desired results. If regular use of Valio Evolus® Double Effect products ceases then the cholesterol levels will return to their original point.
4. At my 35-year occupational health care check-up I was found to have elevated blood pressure and I have been measuring my blood pressure at home. If I have a bottle of Valio Evolus® Double Effect daily dose drink every day, how much can my blood pressure fall? And will my blood pressure fall further if I also eat a Valio Evolus® Double Effect yoghurt daily?
The impact of Valio Evolus® Double Effect products depends on the individual. Clinical studies indicate that the effect of Valio Evolus® on systolic blood pressure is on average -4 mmHg and on diastolic pressure -2 mmHg compared to the control group. There is no recommendation to consume the products in excess of the daily dose, which is one Valio Evolus® Double Effect daily dose drink or two Valio Evolus® Double Effect yoghurts or 3 dl. Using more than the recommended dose does not provide additional benefit.
5. My husband's blood pressure is naturally low but his cholesterol levels have risen. His total cholesterol is 6.2 mmol/l and LDL cholesterol 3.5 mmol/l. Can his blood pressure fall too low if he eats Valio Evolus® Double Effect yoghurt daily?
Valio Evolus® Double Effect products do not bring blood pressure down to too low a level, so it's perfectly safe to use the product even if blood pressure is normal. The plant sterol in the product lowers elevated cholesterol levels.
6. I am pregnant and my blood pressure is slightly elevated. Can I eat Valio Evolus® Double Effect yoghurts?
Pregnant and breastfeeding women have special nutritional needs, so you should follow a healthy diet and discuss your nutrition and blood pressure with your doctor.
7. I take medication for slightly elevated blood pressure. I would like to stop the medication. Is that possible with Valio Evolus® Double Effect products?
As part of a healthy diet and lifestyle Valio Evolus® Double Effect products support non-medicated treatment of elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The products can also be used in parallel with medication. Nevertheless, medication should never be stopped or changed without consulting your doctor.
8. Why do the Valio Evolus® Double Effect packages tell us to eat vegetables?
Vegetables are part of a healthy diet and eating them ensures the sufficient intake of important vitamins and trace elements. It has been found in studies that the quantity of the precursor of vitamin A in the blood may decrease slightly when products containing plant sterol are used regularly. If the recommended quantity of vegetables is eaten while using products containing plant sterol, the quantity of the vitamin A precursor in the blood remains at a sufficient level.
