Valio is Finland's largest cheese manufacturer
|
| Starting with the highest quality milk is a basic requirement for producing the best cheeses. Valio offers a wide range of cheeses including hard and semi-hard (Edam, Emmental, Gouda and Havarti type cheeses), processed cheeses, slices and grated cheeses both for consumers and catering.
|
Finns eat 18.6 kg of cheese per person a year. Cheese consumption has increased, its use become more varied, and the selection has expanded. People enjoy cheese on sandwiches, as a cheese plate, and in many foods and pastries.
Valio is Finland's largest cheese manufacturer and marketer. The company has plants making cheese in Haapavesi, Joensuu, Kaitsor, Lapinlahti, Toholampi, Vantaa and Äänekoski.
Valio's cheese range contains nearly 40 different varieties, the most popular of which is mild Valio Edam, followed by full-fat Valio Oltermanni, semi-hard Valio Polar, and Valio Emmental, also dubbed the king of cheeses.
Finns are proud of their tasty delicacy cheeses, such as the long matured Valio Black Label Emmental, Valio AURA blue cheese, and the fine Finnish full-fat cheese Valio Ritari.
The popularity of low fat cheeses such as Valio Polar 15 and ultra-light Valio Polar 5 has grown rapidly. Other increasingly popular product groups include easy-to-use grated and sliced cheeses. The cheese range is complemented by the functional Valio Gefilus® emmental-type low fat cheese slices and Valio organic edam.
