| At Valio, Responsibility for well-being means controlling the quality of the entire production chain, and securing the continuity of the milk producers' work.

In Valio's milk production chain, the farmer is responsible for the production of raw milk and the dairy co-operative handles farm relations and farm-specific guidance. Valio processes and markets the milk collected from the producers.
Valio has around 9,200 milk producers in whom Valio's ownership is personified. The producers are members (owners) of their own dairy co-operatives, and these co-operatives in turn own the shares of Valio Ltd.
Milk producers elect representatives to the decision-making bodies of their co-operative, who in turn elect representatives to the Annual General Meeting of Valio Ltd. The Annual General Meeting elects Valio's Supervisory Board whose members - other than four personnel representatives - are milk producers. The Supervisory Board elects the Board of Directors and the Board elects the CEO.

Valio procures raw milk for processing primarily from the milk producers of the dairy co-operatives committed to the company. Milk is supplied to Valio Group dairies by some 9,200 milk producers.
Valio pays its owners a monthly advance for raw milk, using equal criteria, proportioned to composition, quality and the time at which the milk is produced. In addition to the advance, Valio pays for the precise milk volume afterwards and then a dividend after the closing of the accounts.
