Valio was named the most responsible company in Finland for the second time.
Finnish consumers named Valio number one food industry company for corporate and social responsibility in a survey conducted by Suomen Gallup Elintarviketieto Oy at the turn of August/September 2009. A total of 1,300 households responded.
Valio was designated number one amongst food industry companies in terms of corporate and social responsibility. Valio was chosen by every second respondent and in the youngest and oldest age groups by over 60% of respondents.
Suomen Gallup Elintarviketieto Oy polled the opinions of Finns on matters that are considered part of corporate and social responsibility. The market researcher also examined which companies and grocery shops are considered particularly responsible. Respondents were presented with a list of 21 food industry companies and 5 grocery chains.
What does responsibility mean?
Finnish consumers believe that especially the quality, safety and freshness of products are part of the social responsibility of both food industry companies and shops. The next items raised were environmental issues, domestic origin and the use of local produce.
Many other issues were also associated with social responsibility, such as ethicality (e.g. fair trade), employee well-being, low prices, including how reduced VAT is passed on by retailers, fairness and honesty, as well as the promotion of health.
